Fish Stocking Efforts
September 2025 Northern Pike release
On September 12, 2025, over 700 12-inch to 15-inch Northern Pike were offloaded at Wagon Wheel Boat Landing. This is one of the first steps in a multi-year, multi-faceted program to improve the lake quality while lowering the carp population. The Lake Mason Management District approved the program at the August 30 meeting.
The program that our district approved will purchase predator fish for the next three years, working closely with Jennifer Bergman of the Fish and Wildlife Service. If you see her working on the lake, please say hello.
In Year One, we are adding a maintenance level of Northern Pike. We added 8,000 fingerlings three years ago. Next year, we will put an aerator in Amey Pond so that we can load it with Bluegill in the fall. Bluegill eat carp eggs. After that, we will be looking at the next predator fish that we need to add to get the lake where we want it.
One catch: We need to remove a lot of carp so that the Bluegill can be effective. We will be hosting a carp tournament next year with nice prizes. We will also be hiring a professional to remove as many as possible.
Thank you for all your support. May you have many great fishing days in your future.
